This Program Guide was put together prior to many of the final decisions from the Ministry of Education and Training regarding the organization of secondary schools for the school year 1998-1999. We have attempted to anticipate some of those decisions in the development of our course offerings. While it is the intention of Uxbridge Secondary School to offer all of the courses listed in this book, it may be necessary to cancel some of them including, but not limited, to the following reasons: low enrolment requests, lack of the availability of a qualified staff member, inability to timetable the course appropriately. Students and parents should be aware that Uxbridge Secondary School will ensure that all required courses will continue to be offered to all students. Guidance counselors are available to assist parents and students in making sound educational decisions and you are encouraged to contact them for information in developing an appropriate timetable. STAFF at Uxbridge Secondary School work with the objectives of the Mission Statement in mind. They teach courses approved by the Ontario Ministry of Education and the Durham Board of Education; courses of study are available at the school for parents perusal. Staff are concerned about the progress of individual students and will contact parents if that progress is not satisfactory. Staff are involved in extracurricular sports, clubs, music and drama to further assist students to achieve their potential.
STUDENTS at Uxbridge Secondary School are expected to treat each other, staff and visitors with respect. They are expected to attend classes regularly and punctually and to complete assigned work to the best of their ability. Pride in their school and in themselves as students and members of the Uxbridge Secondary School community will motivate them to follow the rules established for the benefit of all.
PARENTS and GUARDIANS of students at Uxbridge Secondary School are supportive of their childrens efforts and those of the staff. They are encouraged to be actively involved in the education of their children and to be aware of the educational opportunities available to them. Open communication with teachers and school authorities is essential.

| Uxbridge Secondary School is committed to equal educational opportunities for all. An elevator provides accessibility to all floors of the school and the library has both an elevator and a ramp. There are four wheelchair accessible washrooms situated on different levels of the schools. |
