The counsellors in the Guidance Department will help students throughout their high school years with career and educational planning. Scheduling of classes and course selection is of major importance and will be dealt with on an individual basis. A complete selection of calendars from Ontario colleges and universities and information on out-of-province schooling is available on a sign out basis. Computer programs such as P.C. Directions, Discover and S.G.I.S. can give students information on careers, apprenticeships, colleges and universities. The Guidance Department also provides details of summer and night school courses.

Students’ personal concerns are handled through individual and group counselling. The following Resource Personnel are available to the students:

RESOURCE TEACHERS

Resource teachers provide the following services for identified exceptional students:

• provide teachers with individual Student Education Plans
• monitor academic progress
• collaborate with subject teachers
• teach learning strategies, study skills, organizational skills and time management
• provide academic, personal and career counselling
• provide alternate testing opportunities
• conduct annual student reviews

A Resource teacher provides the following services for identified Gifted students:

• monitors academic progress and assists teachers with individualizing programs
• provides counselling
• coordinates enrichment opportunities

Students may be referred to the following itinerant personnel:

• Speech and Language Pathologist
• Teacher for the Hearing Impaired
• Psychological Services Staff
