EVALUATION POLICY
Good attendance is the single most important factor in ensuring success in any course.
A. As a general rule, there will be no penalty in terms of evaluation for absence for school-related activities. However, it is expected that the student assumes responsibility for notifying each subject teacher in advance so that alternate arrangements can be made to complete a scheduled test, class activity or assignment that will be missed on the day of the activity. It is the right of the student to choose not to participate in a subject activity that requires the student to miss other classes. Where appropriate, the student will be required to complete an alternate assignment in place of the out-of-school activity.
B. Students
may be assigned a zero:
~ if no prior arrangments have been made in the case of (A) above
~ if the students skips the class
~ for plagiarism or cheating on a test or assignment
To avoid being
penalized for plagiarism, students must get prior approval from all teachers
if similar topics are used for more than 1 class.
~ if a student does not submit work to be graded
~ if assignments are submitted late, and after on-time assignments have
been returned to other students.
C. Marks will be deducted for late assignments unless the days missed are covered by a doctor's note that stipulated the student's inability to attend school for the dates covered.
D. Holidays taken outside regular school vacations are NOT excused absences for the purposes of evaluation. All work due during a holiday absence must be submitted on time (i.e. prior to leaving) or a mark of zero may be assigned. Extensions for work due immediately following a holiday absence may only be granted by prior arrangements with your teacher.
E. Absences for scheduled mid-terms or final examinations will be excused only if a doctor's note stipulates the student's inability to be present for the examination on that date.
F. Each department will establish a policy for each of its courses regarding missed test, homework and other assignments. It is understood that policies may vary depending on grade level and type of evaluation. However, teachers are responsible for proving their students with clear information outlining the department policy for each course.
