| Are you tired of the SAC organising all your events? Apart from
Spirit Week, which has turned out quite well with lots of fun activities,
what have they done? The chocolate sales still have money outstanding and
did you get all the candy canes you paid for? We propose a change.
A new group to help organise a few events on the side to make up for short
comings of the SAC. We refer to this as the New World Order or NWO.
One of the first events we are trying to put together is NWO Dr. DodgeBALL.
More events will follow. If you are interested in helping speak to
me, Colin Briggs.

| I was just wondering where our school spirit is? I remember when I
was in grade nine, almost all the senior grades dressed up for Spirit Week.
I thought that sent an excellent message to those in the younger grades,
it convinced me to dress up when I was in grade nine and I'm sure many
other younger students felt the same way. Yet, now I sit here in a senior
grade homeroom dressed up for Beach Day and I make up the a large percentage
of the very few people dressed up in my homeroom. I am extremly disappointed
with this trend. Beach Day and Team Color Day, I beleive, are the easiest
Spirit Week days to dress up for, but very few people can seem to make
the effort to just wear a shirt that matches their team color or pair of
shorts and a t-shirt to school. What kind of message are we sending to
the younger students? The younger students who will one day be planning
Spirit Week themselves, if it's still around. I think that the bee should
take away the Tiger Bowl, I'm sure very few people will miss it.
I would also just like to send out a Thank-You to the Spriit Comittee and the Spirit Team Captains. I think you're doing the best job possible, it's just that our school can't seem to find their spirit yet alone the Tiger Bowl. (Did anyone find it yesterday anyways???) Adam Doyle |

| Good Day eh
Austin Taylor here. Well it took a long time but my post finally achieved its intended goal. To promote the free intercourse of intellectual thought. To Jared I say Thank you. It takes boldness to express one's opinions because there are very few who will agree. The purpose of my original post was to free up the communication lines between those of faith and those who do not believe. I know that the concept of a deity is a hard thing to believe but that does not mean one has to be ignorant of all religion. It has occured to me through observation that people really don't know what other people people of faith believe beyond the fact that they believe in God. Why do we believe in God, is there any historical or scientific reason to believe in God, Who was Jesus...? These are all questions that people should have answered before condemning or acknowledging religion. In response to Jared's post. I do think that many people who have
acted in the name of the Lord were propagandists. When I read my
Bible and see men like Paul (the Apostle), King David, Moses, Elisha, Elija,
Jesus, and the list goes on and on... leaders who acted on God's impulse
and not their own and made tremendous, positive impacts on the lives of
the people they led, and then I compare the leaders who declare themselves
to be acting upon the impulse of God there is no comparison. Leaders
like Hitler, who acted under the slogan God with us cannot be compared
to leaders like David who when he acted wrongly he, was integrous and
On cencorship, I enjoy hearing peoples opinions. In my world there
are a lot of dissenters so I'm quite used to finding those with views that
aren't in tune with my own. That doesn't mean that I don't want to
hear their beliefs. It would be a pretty dull world if everyone agreed
on everything wholeheartedly. So please, I want to hear your opinions.

| This is a response to Greg Maynard's view on the whole censorship thing.
What issue between Austin and I are you talking about? There is no
issue. He left his opinion and I left mine. I even talked to
Austin in person and he said it was all cool. He was not offended
by my response nor I by his. I just felt if he was going to put his
religious beliefs on here that I would put on mine. He believes in
a Christian God and I don't. There was no intent by either of us
to harm or damage the other person's ego or faith. We just wanted
to tell both sides of the story. I do not believe that there was
an issue at hand except for the fact that my belief was censored where
as his wasn't.I'm just glad that Sabrina was willing to put my belief on
here when there was no need to censor it in the first place. I know a lot
of people don't agree with what I have said and I don't agree with what
Austin says, but in our society today there is a good thing that's going
on called tolerance.

| This is in response to Jarrod Shaw talking advice about what he should
do- Jarrod man, if you do find out who did the spitting I think you
should talk to them about what they did. I know they wouldn't listen,
but I'm sure if you got all your buddies together they would. Obviously
there were more than one person involved in this,(someone was driving).
Talking would get you nowhere so after that you and all your buddies should
load up and hock on them. This was an insult to you and it shows
a little immaturity, the only way you will be able to get through to them
will to be immature your self. Power to ya' find the little <censored>,

| Well, this whole censorship issue doesn't seem to surprise me too much.
Why? Because no matter what we do, who we are and where we come from/live,
there will always be someone else who believes what someone else said is
inappropriate. I'm more than sure it's human nature and this is why I don't
believe in censorship really at all when it comes to plain opinions. Every
argument is going to have something offensive in it ( heck, sometimes being
told we're wrong or our ideas don't make sense is offensive enough ). My
personal censorship rules would be... No swearing, or huge immature comments.
No point in telling someone they look like an animal's behind.. Doesn't
really do anything). I dunno, I'd like to see this issue between Jarrod
and Austin end P.. I don't see any reason for any censorship to have started,
aside from the fact that the topic they discussed was one that usually
ends up in hurt feelings on one side or another.
Leading me to my next comment ... Before I shut up. Why is it that we can hear the rudest comments, take the biggest insults and have our pride taken away from us and still remain somewhat stable? Yet if our religions/beliefs are judged or countered, it's often that someone breaks apart P. Ahh well. Back to class I guess. | Dan, we're friends, I'm friends with people who smoke, and I don't
dislike people just because they smoke. But you know what really
ticks me off? The fact that non smokers, like myself have absolutely
no rights. People who smoke stink up the hall ways, restaurants,
airports, and numerous other public facilities. I know not everything
in the world is fair, but the fact that this goes on without any consequences
is cruel and unfair. It is time for non smokers to stick up for themselves
and lobby to make the sale of tobacco illegal. People should not
have the right to dictate what will breathe (tobacco smoke), and what I
won't smell (perhaps blooming flowers, I wouldn't know all I smell around
this place is smoke). I know this comment won't go over well with
smokers but think for a moment - you choose to smoke, I don't, however
I do want to go outside the school without smelling smoke. Should
I have to? Is it right? If you answer I don't care to either
or both my comments it shows what kind of person you are. Need I
say any more? In closing I'd just like to say get a life, stop stinking
up our school, it's as much yours as it is mine, your mother's, my brothers',
and Mrs. Beath's, and I can say with confidence that a small population
of the school is ruining our image and integrity, as well as our outdoors
by smelling it up satisfying your nicotine fix!

| Everyone has the right to do what they choose. This is what is
meant by freedom in Canada and in the rest of the world. It must
be agreed upon however that the power to choose is a great power to have
but with this great power comes great responsibility. If we choose
to smoke, then we should expect to pay for the consequences of our actions.
Therefore I believe that health care for smokers should be revoked.
If one has enough money to buy packs upon packs of cigarettes over the
years, they should have enough money to pay for lung operations and the
like when the time comes to face the music. If you want to complain
about how second hand smoke affects you, forget it because smokers won't
listen. If you want to complain about how non-smokers don't understand
the plight of the smoker, stop because
non-smokers won't listen. Instead, ask yourself if it should be others' opinions you want to change or your own. Tyler Hortie Click here to see the entries from April 22nd, which contain the post to which this is a response. |
| This is in response to Jarrod Shaw's message being censored from Speaker's
Corner.
In my opinion, Jarrod's message should not have been censored. It was simply his opinion. True, it could have been offensive to Christians, but Austin's messages could have been offensive to many other people, both religious people and not. There are so many things that are offensive in this world. We should be able take something like this and instead of being offended by it, accept it as an opinion and use it to better understand this person and other people we meet in our lives. I am not saying we should agree with and accept everything we see and hear without ever voicing our own opinions and try to float through life on a passive fluffy cloud, because I personally don't agree with what Jarrod said. I am saying don't put up a wall of anger and indignation that blocks out everyone else's voice but yours. Consider the other side, research so you know what you are talking about, make your opinion known, and realize that your opinion is just as valid as the next person's. | On Wednesday April 22, I walked home as I normally do after a fine
day of hitting the books in the old school. It was a beautiful day,
the sun was out and the weather was just grand. As I came near to
the end of my walk, I became a victim, a victim of a drive by spitting.
It sounds like a Seinfeld episode and yes, this may sound funny to some
of you immature little rodents out there, but to me this was an insult.
I was rather disgusted by this atrocious, repugnant act of stupidity.
What you have shown myself and all those other people out there, is that
you still have a lot of growing up to do. I honestly have no idea
why anyone would do this, what would possess someone of your age to spit
your dirty, filthy saliva at another person. Was I a victim of a
random spitting, or was it a premeditated incident identifying me as the
victim? I cannot answer any of these questions. What i do know
is that i have thought about this incident long and hard. Trying to figure
out the most humane and positive way to deal with it. at the moment i still
don't know. what i would like is a response from some of you out
there telling me what you would do, if you were in my shoes. thanks

| Greg, this is in return to your comment stating smelling a little second
hand smoke once in a while won't give you lung cancer. You know what,
you're probably right, but the fact of the matter is every time I walk
through the corridor in front of the gym I smell second hand smoke, yours
and probably half the rest of the schools, and you know what, it makes
me sick. My only salvation is the fact that I know once I leave this
school I won't have to breathe unnecessary toxins (which do cause damage
to my lungs, but more damage to your lungs, skin, arteries etc.) anymore.
However I do feel sorry for you, who unless you change your habits will
breath that crap for the rest of your life. You know, it's a sad
thing that everyone begins with a healthy body, and people like you still
suck poison gasses into your system, despite scientifically proven evidence
smoking kills. I wish you luck in being one of the few people who
don't develop severe illness due to smoking. Oh, and by the way,
once health care is gone in this province, you'll wish you had all that
money you spent on tobacco to pay for the treatment you'll want to kill
the cancer inside you.

| Hey USS what's up. Well the following facts might disturb some of you
so don't read it if you're the kind that gets all mad real easy like. If
you will its a critique or my point of view about Some of this years SAC.
1) Why do you all jump over lilly when she speaks the truth. Plainly put advertising outside the cafeteria sucks. Starvin Marvin people get more credit for there efforts than our GREAT advertising council. And don't give me that "we're in OAC". BS. I have 3 hrs of homework AT MINIMUM each night (and that's if i am lucky), i still find time to go the gym, play rugby and work on weekends. Hell i even go out at night on the weekends and I find time to play around on this computer. So basically what your telling me is that you are SOOOO busy doing "Homework" that you can't even fofill that which you committed yourselves to. Well guys guess what? If you cant spare the time don't do the crime! And another thing, if your not willing to put in your 100% don't bother writing on your pretty resumes "Oh wow i was on student council." We know that's what SOME of you are in for... 2) Please note the above rant said ADVERTISING OUTSIDE THE CAFETERIA SUCKS. Not anything else about there advertising. 3) Who was the idiot that said "if you were apart of the SAC you could actually have an opinion, but since you're not, you can't have one". Err okay lets see... so you have to be on student council to have an opinion now eh? Wacky wacky miss Stalin! Why don't you go to Cuba or somewhere. But its okay i see what has happened... Its just the oppression put on by the "man" D. Wigdor and council... You have to fight the power. 4) I think Athletic council is just about starting to turn around. I was beginning to think humm.... another waste of time "position". But then the came up with this in-door soccer thing.... so i guess they are trying. 5) Spirit council. Humnmm.. Well i have got to say that our school spirit has been... less than "fun" at late. All as i can say girls is that ya'll better be out for rugby. (That and make spirit week worth it) 6) Dance Council. Not bad not bad, these guys are the only ones that i actually see putting forth some effort for the events that take place. 7) Trade.. Oh yeah that was #1 8) "Student council executive", what a poxy high falutent title for a bunch of no-goods that don't do a damn. Lets see... humm without naming names, what do you guys actually do? I mean damn man. Are you like some kind of elite group that thinks they control out school funding and were it goes? Er Oh yeah you do. Maybe that's why the whole council (Sorry for using sucks so often Mr. Watson, so i'll use (skcus) (Spell it backwards)) skcus so much. Gees with these guys controlling what you can do no wonder! 9) Why is it that the council can't really do anything without "certain teacher's" permission? Who does the council really represent? Well i am sure you're all going to love that article! So adieu to you all. And in the words of a famous chinese proverb: "Before you set out on revenge, first dig two graves." | In response to Lily, and all others The Spirit Week poster which
I recently took down was NOT this month's bulletin board! It was
only an advertisement to announce the upcoming spirit week. I'm not
trying to attack you, but I do not agree with the things you said.
I don't see how you can now say that you didn't say the boards were crappy
because even if that was not your intent, it is what you wrote. I
don't think that either Sabrina or I are not fulfilling our promises, the
point of advertising is to get the message across and that is what we are
doing. We are not trying to make a lot of excuses as to why the board
is not always done but we just wanted you to be a little more understanding.
We welcome constructive criticism and ideas, but mud-slinging is not necessary.

yesterday. I do not agree with what she said but she is entitled to say
it. In regards to what was said about how they knew that they would be
in OAC this year and took the responsibility on anyway, this is very true,
but as an OAC student I would like to say that I don't think many of us
have a very good idea of just how much work and stress is involved in your
OAC year until you actually get there. When you are trying to get into
Universities this is the most stressful time of year, and we all let things
drop a little in order to concentrate on our impending futures so please
cut Daniel and Sabrina a little slack.

| In regards to Mr.Wigdor's bashing of Ross Rebagliati and Ben Johnson
I'd like to say that these cases cannot be fairly compared. I happen to
have a good friend named Jamie Stephan who I had the pleasure of growing
up with. His dad happens to be the doctor/coach who supplied Ben Johnson
with his steroids. Ben Johnson admits to preparing for the Olympics
with these drugs but did not intend to use them for the actual race. Mr.
Astephan drugged him by order of Johnson's head coach. The head coach got
off scott free, Mr.Astephan went to jail and Johnson lost his medal. As
for Ross pot is not even close to be an enhancing drug. Have you ever been
burnt out? When he got his medal back cookers all over the world rejoiced
because now we're one step closer to decrimilization. Mr.Wigdor say what
you will now but I bet you by the time we have children pot will be socially
acceptable just like common cigarettes. There are more closet smokers than
you think. I know businessmen, parents, senior citizens and yes even some
teachers. I even know a doctor who smokes more of the wacky tobacky
than any teenager I know. Look around we're everywhere!!!

to say I agree with her. You knew you were going to be in OAC this

she didn't run for advertising... YOU DID!!!!!! She knew she couldn't

| I just want to clear up what I said about Daniel and Sabrina. I never
said that the SAC suck, I never said that Daniel and Sabrina's art sucks,
and I never said that I could do a better job than them. It's obvious that
I didn't want the advertising position so I didn't run for advertising
so it isn't my job to have to do the board. They did, therefore it is their
job to do a proper job of the board, whether they have college applications
to complete, a job, or other school work. They shouldn't have run for the
position if they couldn't fulfill their promises. Another thing, I didn't
mean to say that the board is always crappy, the first few were really
good. It is the other ones that I am complaining about the ones that are
missing, look like they took a few minutes to make, and stay up for more
than a month. If the calendar for this month took you so long to do and
so much effort, why did you redo it after I complained? Anyway, I didn't
mean to be so negative but I wanted to tell Daniel and Sabrina what people
are thinking. I am not the only person who thinks that the board could
have been better a couple of months so don't attack me personally
like some people did. I wanted to improve the board and bring the complaints
to the SAC's attention, which I did.

| This is in response to the person who wrote about the crappy advertising
job of Sabrina and Daniel. First of all, I just want to say that
you can't judge to SAC, because you don't know how much work they do for
the school... if you were apart of the SAC you could actually have an opinion,
but since you're not, you can't have one. I think that Daniel and
Sabrina do an amazing job. They worked their butts off to get onto
the SAC, and I think that it was worth all of our votes.
Daniel and Sabrina... I think you're doing a great job, keep up the awesome work!!!! And Lily... I think that before you can criticize everything done by the SAC, you need to do something yourself, and see how much work you put into it. I am seriously ticked off about people writing about how bad the SAC is, if you don't like what they're doing, then get off your butts, and do something yourself. | I would just like to respond to the ignorant and rude comments made
by Lily on Speakers' Corner. I admit that the bulletin board is not
always done for each month, but sometimes it is impossible or there is
nothing going on. I am an OAC student with many things to do, I do
not get paid to do advertising, and things like university applications, portfolio preparation, my jobs, and ISUs are more important than my advertising duties. Secondly, I do not think that my bulletin boards are ugly... I spend a lot of time on them (they do not look like, nor do they take only two minutes). Usually the bulletin boards take two or three days working for at least six hours a day on them. I would do more advertising if I had the time and felt it would be appreciated. Many times the posters I put up get taken down. This is very aggravating and I do not have the time to replace them. The worst example of this was in January when I began putting up the bulletin board. I put up the month name, (which took a lot more than two minutes to draw), and it was taken down the next day. Because of this I did not put up anything else for January. Many people complimented the February, and October bulletin boards, so obviously they were not ugly. The February bulletin board was up for some of March, not all of it, because of March Break. Maybe next time you have something to say you should know the facts. I like to do the advertising and I spend a lot of time on it. I really do not appreciate the posters I spend HOURS on being taken, or insulted. I do as much as I can considering all of my other obligations and do not appreciate ignorant and mean remarks when you don't know anything about it or me. In defense of Sabrina, she writes most of the morning announcements and spends a lot of time doing advertising. I suggest that if you believe you can do a better job of advertising, that you run for the position come the end of May. | I really do not know how someone in their right mind could defend testing
on animals. If the company is trying to change their ways and find a better
way to test products, then fine. But there are some companies who are still
using animal testing because it is a cheap way to find out if the products
work.
To Colin Briggs. I respect your opinion, but I do not agree with it. Testing on humans is no better than testing on animals. It is a barbaric practice that should be illegal. I personally would be glad to give up a few of my favourite products to save some poor animal's skin. | In response to what was said about the job Daniel and Sabrina are doing,
maybe the bulletin board isn't always up to date but what was said about
it being ugly and looking like it had only taken two minutes to do is absolute
garbage! I happen to know daniel and the stuff he does takes him hours,
he would never display something that he didn't think was good, if nothing
else he takes real pride in his work, and there is no denying that. if
this Lily person has such a problem with the way things are maybe she should
stop whining about it and run for the SAC next year.
i'm really getting sick of every one complaining about what a crappy job the SAC is doing, and the vast majority of them didn't even run. | Yo What's up USS?
Wow a big animal testing debate! I don't know the whole story (probably because i am to lazy to read all the messages...) but i'd just like to argue... and say that testing of these products on animals is probably wrong. Q #1) If you get a cut do you hurt?
Q) If an animal gets a cut do you think it hurts?
So since we know that animals feel pain from our little experiment before, do you think its REALLY right to test chemicals with bad side effects on them? No. Instead we should make human clones and give them all of our deadly chemicals and see what kind of freaks we get. We could open up a freak museum. Look the freak clone with... 3 heads! And if they get strong and tough we could use them to do our dirty work. Give them 50 hands and they could pick all of the grapes from vine trees so we could have endless quantities of wine! Now if we were really smart we would use all the strong ones for our rugby team here at USS... BTW WE NEED MORE RUGBY PLAYERS... SO COME ON OUT! Paul Cleary. Oh yeah. PS. What's with the smoking thing? Are you a retard man? | I just want to complain about the crappy job the advertising people
are doing this year. I voted for them (Sabrina & Daniel) because I
thought that they would do a good job. Every month the calendar outside
the cafeteria wall is really ugly. It's always the wrong month (February
was up for 2 months) and most of the time it looks like it took a couple
of minutes to make. I'm really disappointed in the advertising this year
and I regret having voted for Sabrina and Daniel. I thought they could
do a lot with their art skills but they are too lazy to do their job. I
think that it is the duty of the SAC to make sure they do their job and
do it well, like they promised they would do.

| I find people views on animal testing are slightly skewed. People
do not want to use them for testing yet they still want these products.
What are we going to test them on, dolls? Animal testing is the reason
we enjoy so many wonderful products, shampoo, perfume, and Big Macs.
There are so many animals around that we need somewhere to put them, so
why not test our potentially dangerous products on them. That way
their skin will burn off and not ours.
Colin Briggs P.S. If you still are against animal testing here is the number you may call to volunteer your body for testing. (Free Big Macs) 1-800-USE-ME-NOW, This number may or may not work Click here to see the entries from April 2nd, which contain the posts to which this is a response. |
| But don't you understand, Karen, that the victims of second hand smoke
do not have the choice of "standing by" or not? Airline stewards,
waiters, servers, etc. have been forced to cope with smoke filled environments
for decades. While it's important to consider the right of the smoker
to smoke, I believe that a line is crossed when your habit, however individual
and independent, causes the death of another person. You are now
forcing them into a dangerous situation. I salute establishments,
such as McDonald's and Air Canada, which no longer have smoking areas,
for their bravery.

| Just as a follow-up to what I wrote yesterday, I did some research
last night and discovered that, as i suspected, there are two sides to
this story. Procter & Gamble openly admits to testing on animals, but
they have also spent tons of money on trying to find better alternatives.
But don't just take my word for it, I obtained a press release from the
company that includes web sites and phone #'s. i would be glad to this
share with anyone interested, so let me know. Don't just stick with your
idealistic views, this is not a perfect world, get informed, it's the only
way to make a real difference on this crazy planet!
I would like to know, Katie, if you have any info on safer alternatives that are available and if you do I would like to take a look at it. I would also like to let Katie know that what I'm writing is not a personal attack on her, and I hope it is not taken that way. In fact I would like to thank her for bringing up the issue, I know her intentions were simply to make people aware of the things that are going on around us, and we should all appreciate that. | I would just like to know where this organization Katie Ovens is talking
about gets it's info. I'm not saying it's not true, but you can't just
believe everything you read. People can print almost anything they want,
it doesn't make it true. I would suggest to all of you planning on boycotting
Proctor and Gamble that before you do, you make your own informed opinion,
don't base your actions simply on the accusations of one organization,
or you're the one who's going to look foolish! Not long ago there
were totally unsubstantiated rumors floating around that P&G was a
satanist cult! The company that started this rumor was a competetor of
P&G's. P&G subsequently sued and won the case. The only reason
I mention this is to prove my point about not everything you read being
true.
Shawn Lund PS. I don't want to get a ton of letters telling me that i'm a horrible person because of my opinions, I do NOT agree with testing on animals for any reason, i just think we should inform ourselves instead of jumping on a bandwagon Click here to see the entries from March 27th, which contain the posts to which this is a response. |
| To Adam Doyle I have absolutely no idea how these food products
are tested on animals. The same question has been bugging me since
I first read the list.
To Daniel Wigdor I have no answer to this question either. Perhaps they continue to test simply because that's the way it has always been done. I certainly never meant to suggested anything about these companies' values. And you are right, I should have researched into this a bit more, as I was relying on a letter that contained very little info and I was assuming everything was true. I will look for answers to these questions, but you must understand that my objectives were simply to provide a list of products that are tested on animals, not extensive information. I do hope, though, that anyone reading my previous post and wondering on the validity of the contents will not become so wrapped up in these problems that they ignore the main reason I wrote this that these products are tested on animals according to PETA and, also according to PETA and other organizations and literature I have read, that these test are unnecessary and cruel. Thanks, and I will look further into this subject and provide more info if possible. Katie Ovens Click here to see the entries from March 28th, which contain the posts to which this is a response. |
| This is in response to Nick's comment on second hand smoke. People
have the choice of smoking, if there is a warning on the package
or not. Just like you have the choice of standing by people that
are smoking or not. So, instead of complaining about it to
everyone, make your choice.

| And now for something completely different...
NO MORE CAF POP!!!!! What was mrs. Winterstien & co. thinking by removing our beloved cups. What are the reasons for removing the cups? Sure they cause garbage... but they were soooooo usefull.... - You could buy one (for 10 or 15 cents depending on who was selling them and drink some water. - They're cheaper than the cans. - As I work at Harvey's... I KNOW how much profit you make off the fountain drinks.... So to sum it up... someone must have been BRAIN-DEAD when they got those drinks removed. As an alternative, why not provide both... it would keep both sides happy. Thanks (again) for Listening Nicholas Furniss |

| Why do people continually smoke in the parking lot? Smoking is
bad for you (it even says so in black and white on the box), but yet people
still do it. Not only that but second-hand smoke is just as bad (if
not worse because of no filters) for us innocent by-standards. I
don't mind
smoking, in fact I have friends who do... just don't do it where everyone will have to suffer the effects of second-hand smoke. Thanks For Listening Nick Furniss |
