| Hey all, i got a few things to say:
On the garbage debate, yup I agree with you. This place is a mess. I heard from a friend that a group of firefighters were talking and saying how disgustingly filthy our school is (i.e. ministry of health == shut down) Anyway, you have to realize about the ketchup thing, the kids doing it are the like the same kids who did stuff last year, and the year before that and.... I can remember for instance when someone decided to put a glass cup in the middle of the main hallway. You can't see a glass cup, so whack someone kicked the thing flying when they walked past. Or there was the dead rat in the microwave incident... or maybe how you can lock one of the many doors in our school, so that it opens a little bit but then stops dead, and you end up walking into your face. In the famous words of somebody or other, "stupid is as stupid does." As for the law issue Austin, you said that Law is divine, is that not just describing a characteristic of it, not actually defining what it is. I believe a good definition might be equality and fairness for all, or something along those lines. (but wait you're going to say "well who decides what is fair??") And finally I have 2 complaints to make: 1) WHY is it that you can ONLY buy FRIES on friday????? Why do they make you purchase a combo meal (at the school cafe)??? I therefore suggest a boycott of the schools food until they change there attitudes..... 2) WHY DON'T YOU ALL PLAY RUGBY!!! Its fun, come on guys! | Believe it or not there are some people at U.S.S.. that truly do care
about what our school looks like. So this is a little message to
those of you who do not care and feel it is necessary to throw your garbage
on the ground, in the halls or leave it on the tables in the caf.
I thought maturity came with age but apparently this is not entirely true
for some students at U.S.S.. who think it is cool to smear ketchup across
the caf. Tables or leave half eaten popcicles on the chairs. Do you
behave in this manner at home or at the home of others? If so, please give
me your name so you can go on a list of not invited for those of
us who care. Just today as i was walking to class after lunch
there were a couple of guys ( i won't mention any names because they know
who they are) sitting in the hall way laughing at an apple core being stepped
on by unsuspecting passers-by. I would really like to be let in on
what is so funny abut a crushed apple core ???? Out side, the garbage
is embarrassing. As we've been told by faculty several times already
this year, we are role models for the younger students at our neighboring
school, joseph gould. Perhaps they should be our role models, as
their lawn looks a lot tidier!!!!!!! I am not sure how else to get
the message out that that throwing your garbage on the ground is wrong.
I guess all i am trying to say is stop throwing your crap on the ground,
use the garbage cans for crying in da' mud!!!!!!!!!
thanx, RACHEL SHORT |
| Wow! Deep thoughts Austin, though I ask, why were you doing Law homework
while surfing the net? Yes, our law system is really messed. If I ran the
country, I'd make a definition for justice. I'd also throw out all of the
textbooks in USS that are older than I am!
I'm afraid that although everyone is criticizing Paul on the pants thing, I have to say this. I think that pants that are way to big just look dumb. But no, that doesn't mean that I judge people by how they look. I sometimes just don't like it. (Do you really think that we WANT to see your boxers?!?) | I would have to agree with Jeff's cold speech. To sit in one
classroom for longer a class in the freezing temps is torture. And
the fact that most teachers don't want coats in class makes it a little
harder to keep warm. And to Anonymous #3, your dream girl is NOT
going to magically show up on Speaker's Corner at uxbridgess.com, admit
it. uxbridge is just a hole that we pass through on our way to something...
else.

| Hello peoples!
Why Amy, do I sense some resentment and/or bitterness in your last letter? You sound kind of angry. Perhaps you need to "chill". Maybe you could tell us all how we don't need birthdays, and that we should buy each other presents every day... (he he he) Anonymous #... what is it now 3? Special effect fellow. Lecturing me <censored>? Am I your mama or something? I find it interesting that you pick on ONE item that was mentioned, one mere description of pant size. Now I could understand if I outright said "all people are dumb that ware pants 20x too big." But this was not the case. Instead I gave a general description of "individuals" that "roam" our hallways. And yes, some of your punk music is pretty cool. And what is with everyone driving to school now? I cant even sleep in
on my spare without having to double park! WHY DON'T YOU KIDS TAKE A BUS!

| Well well well, it seems that Paul has been getting a lot of criticism,
a taste of his own medicine, as my grandma would say. It's really interesting
to read from both sides. But me, I'd have to agree with anonymous #2. But
that's only because, I happen to enjoy those comfy pants that are a mere
20 sizes too big! I'm telling you Paul, you ought to try them cause once
you go Fat you never go back! But seriously, Paul, there's nothing up with
THE HOOD, we who wear our pants too big, show the genuine taste of skaters
and snow boarders. And just because some of us listen to hip hop, does
not mean we come or want to come from THE HOOD. Besides, Punk music is
the best kind
of music there is. (That should get you going Paul) Anyway, this is for all the girls out there: Please tell me what your looking for in a guy because I need to know so I can get a date! What is it that really gets you interested? Maybe if there are any girls who'd respond I'd let my name be known to all who care, but until then... Anonymous # 3 P.S. It's not that I'm ashamed to show my name ( PAUL ) I did that for effect. |
| Paul
You are right. We should get some real conversations going but you don't have to offend and belittle (is that one word or two? Anyway...) everyone else's comments. Grow up. I know you just wanted to get everyone talking but the way you went about it was very childish. From AMY (Not afraid to use her name) WILLIAMS |
| Wow. the level of intellectual thought (or lack thereof) on the
school's website is overwhelming. Here is my contribution to Speaker's
Corner. as I read over my law homework the other night the strangest
thought occurred to me. There is no definition of justice, furthermore,
it is impossible to define justice, yet as I read further my textbook told
me that justice is the basic reason for law.
Consider this. Austin Taylor |
| Why is the school so cold? I know that the education system is
having financial problems, but trying to freeze students in the hallways
is a little harsh isn't it? Some of Classrooms feel like a sauna,
and the hallways are cold as the arctic. Please administration, show
us some compassion. GIVE US SOME HEAT!

| Hello!
Well is seems as if my last article got a couple of "pansy" anonymous replies! Well what's the matter with you all? Can't take a bit of criticism? Mr. Anonymous one, I never claimed to be smart so I don't know where you're taking that one? And why do you use the word "we", what is there like a whole freaking army of.... hey wait! What is this, some kind of McDonald's coup? I know you, I KNOW YOU! Ahem... But seriously, if I don't get you all started talking and DISCUSSING things, then who will? We would probably all just sit around here doing NOTHING and the web site would go unused! So instead of taking comments personally (which they are not intended), why don't you attack the issues at hand? Now Anonymous boy 2, what the hell are you on about? Yeah okay I am sorry, you can wear whatever you want, but you don't deny any of the Homeboy stuff eh? What you straight out "'da hood"? ahahahahahahahahahahahah! | Just reading through the recent entries in Speaker's Corner and I have
only one comment, boy do they suck. Everyone is whining about this
and whining about that. He said this, she said that. What a load
of <censored>. Bottom line, who cares. Write about current
events... cool. Write about the school... fine. Heck even write
about what a fine Valedictory address we heard at commencement. This
is not Fashion File or Love Connection. Don't waste our time with
the usual tripe some people are putting out. By the way Good Luck
at Rugby this year Paul. I am also enjoying what you are writing these
days Paul, even if you are a capitalist.

| To Paul Cleary,
Some people like pants that are 20 sizes too big, and some people like skaters. And who said anything about the "HOOD"? MBA if you would buy some pants that actually fit you and don't go in at the bottom making it impossible for your pants to go over your shoes then a girl might "consider" ( KEY WORD ) (oh and so is "a" as in 1) you. But until then, don't count on much. Unless you might even consider, that there are actually people in the clothes, and a girl shouldn't consider you by how you dress but by who you are. But since you're not that kind of guy... Anonymous

| I'm just wondering why Mr. Paul Cleary thinks he is Mr. social director.
Yes he very well may be a smart guy, but he doesn't have to act like he
knows everything! I'm sorry, but we just don't feel like reading your criticism
over and over. Once and awhile yes, but Paul, must you comment on every
single detail that you don't like? I'm sure you're a very nice guy, but
stop putting down other people, friends and hangouts, and activities. Some
of us do like things that you don't but that doesn't make us bad people.
So I know that a lot of people would appreciate it if you withheld all
the negative comments you always submit just to get us talking. But it
the long run I guess it worked!

| Sorry Daniel, but I have to disagree. Ross deserves that gold
metal as much as anyone else. He fought his hardest and came out
on top. Just because he used a drug that actually decreases his performance
almost two years ago shouldn't mean that it is still in his system.
He snowboards in Whistler. In Whistler, Marajuana use is quite abundant
in this relaxed resort. He would have been exposed to second hand
smoke quite often without even realizing it. He shouldn't be penalized
for wanting to practice in one of the nicest ski resorts on the planet!
Anybody who's anybody would love to ski / snowboard at Whistler, not for
the marijuana but because it's such an amazing mountain!
Also, snowboarding is one of the only olympic sports that actually has marijuana as one of it's test substances. I don't know about you but I think that I see a bit of a stereotype here. I know that a rule is a rule even if it's a stupid rule but for the minute amount that was in his body, I think it is stupid to react is such a manner. Anyway, that's my two cents worth and obviously, the committee agrees with me since he now has his medal back. I fully agree with their decision. | Although Ross Rebagliati was cleared by the IOC so that he could keep
his gold medal after all, there will be enormous financial costs that he
will have to bear because of the trace amounts of marijuana in his system.
Already many lucrative endorsements are drying up like water on the hot
sands of the desert (good simile, eh? - spoken with a Canadian accent).
He will pay the price for his dalliance. Pity. Richard Watson |

| Canada. The great land of opportunity (north), freedom, and apparently,
of open drug use. This is, I believe, the second gold medal which
Canada has lost in recent years because of a positive drug test.
Though Ben Johnson lost his medal in the 100m sprint following the use
of a performance enhancing drug, there is no reason that this instance
should be any different. Ross Rebagliati had traces of Marijuana
in his system -- period. Though the drug is does not enhance performance,
do we really want someone like this representing our country?

| To the anonymous poster of February 10th, I do agree with you that
community service should be done out of the goodness of your heart, but
many don't choose to do this. Either because they were not brought
up to believe that it is important to contribute to the community, or simply
because they don't have enough time. By making 40 hours a mandatory
part of a person's education, both of these obstacles are over-come.
Community service can include such things as tutoring others for free,
volunteering at a local public school, or looking after someone's children.
Please don't view it as free labour to clean the streets!
And thank you, Mr/Ms Anonymous, for pointing out that the SAC's Grad Gather WAS NOT A POLITICAL STATEMENT. I think that for some people, somewhere along the line, it was forgotten just what it was designed to do. Its intent was, of course, to provide a gathering for the graduating class on the evening in which commencement normally takes place. All staff were invited to attend, albeit at the last minute (but hey, the whole gathering was put together over the course of 4 days). Unfortunately, preparation for the gather included coming into the school, and crossing the picket line. It really is too bad that many people viewed this as a political action, as one staff member very verbally indicated to me at the time. We didn't, and don't, want to take any side on this issue. Your student council, ladies and gentlemen, is politically neutral, and we wish to stay that way. Laurie suggested in her post that perhaps we should have taken the side of the teachers. An anonymous response indicated that this would be a mistake. No matter which side we take, we would not be properly representing the desires of our student body, which is our primary function. So Laurie, that's why we didn't organize a walkout or protest. Oh, and if anyone wishes to respond to this, please include your name! It's hard to refer to "Mr/Ms Anonymous"! Daniel Wigdor

| I think that a lot of people are taking what Laurie
said a little too personally. I do not know her but I tend to agree
to a certain extent to what she said. Perhaps what she was trying
to say about the community service stuff is that it should not be forced
upon anyone. Community service is done out of the goodness of your
heart, and I too do not believe that it should be forced upon anyone, so
perhaps you should not all be jumping on it without getting it clarified
first to what was meant. Is that what was meant?
Second of all, how do you know that she meant EVERYONE was just lounging
around all day during that strike. I personally was working and I
am very proud of what the SAC did for the grads that had come home.
But if you had read her message clearly you would have noticed that she
was speaking of the strike, that nobody fought for our right to learn,
which does not include a get together for the grads, it means teachers
who are there to teach us. Even though they had a right and a reason
to do what they did, we ended
Maybe next time all you guys decide to jump all over somebody's opinion you should try to clarify it first. Anonymous Click here to see Laurie's post from January 16th. Click to see other responses to Laurie's post: |

| Hello all! What's up? I'd just like to point out how stupid I
feel the whole Valentine thing is. You shouldn't wait for this one
day to tell the one you love how you feel. Why wait? Do it today!
I'm not anti-Valentine but it seems that love shouldn't only fall on one
day. I went to Zehrs on the weekend and the first thing I saw as
I turned the corner was Red, white... and pink? Valentine's stuff
EVERYWHERE! Candies, flowers, teddy bears etc etc etc. Ahhhhhhhhhh!
The pressure is on for significant others everywhere to express their feeling
through gifts and not any gift... the perfect gift. What if you get
him or her something extremely well thought out, you know they will love
it but then they hand you a simple card? The CrAZyNeSs! Guess that's
all.

| Hey to everyone who does not have a girlfriend. I know sometimes you
feel like there is no one out there for you, but really there is. You may
just have to look at who your friends (girls) are because they could be
right in front of your face . If you find out that you are too scared to
ask them out or something , just think , you only live once ,and I bet
if you don't you probably feel like you have a gut rot feeling. Remember
there are millions of people outside the confined walls of U.S.S. and basically
out of Uxbridge so broaden your horizons. Another thing maybe not
the most popular person is the one for you because in the end they might
not turn out to the be the best anyway. Trust me girls aren't everything
so if you're having bad luck it's not the end of the world. In conclusion
, if you don't try, and just hope , the guy who is trying may get her first.
