| I don't mean to sound ignorant in asking this question, but it's been
nagging at me since I read Katie Ovens' article about Procotor & Gamble
products being tested on animals. How are the food products tested on the
animals? I am assuming they are fed the various food products and the testers
hope the animals don't die. If this is the case, then why bother testing?
We know these products are safe...I think perhaps I'll have to add those
products to my boycott list. Thanks Katie.

| Horrible, and unnecessary? I guess perhaps I have too much faith
in corporate America, but if tests are truly unnecessary, why would the
companies carry them out? Are you suggesting that these companies
are sadistic, awful groups of people? I highly doubt it. Katie,
I'd love to see more information once you've done a bit of your own research.

| The other day I received a letter from PETA (People for the Ethical
Treatment of Animals) which included a list of products that are tested
on animals. It should be noted that this is only a partial list of
the many products that are being tested in outdated product tests on animals
(the tests are no longer necessary and don't prove much anyway). All products
listed are products of Procter & Gamble the largest corporate offender
still senselessly maiming, poisoning and killing animals. Their products
include Bold, Bounce, Ivory, Joy, Mr. Clean, Spic and Span, Tide, Crest,
Scope, Head & Shoulders, Vidal Sassoon, Safeguard, Charmin, Puffs,
Old Spice, Secret, Pampers, Royale, Metamucil, Nyquil, Pepto-Bismol, Vicks,
Max Factor, Cover Girl, Noxema, Oil of Olay, Crisco, Duncan Hines, Folgers,
Jif, Hawaiian Punch, and Pringles. Please read this list, and for
the sake of the millions of animals who are victims of this testing, make
an attempt not to buy any of these products. Every single one of
Proctor & Gambles products has a cruelty-free counterpart.
Thanks, Katie Ovens |

| Hello
I was sitting in my living room the other night watching the Gemini Awards on TV and almost fell off my seat when 'Brooke Johnson' was nominated and won an award. Brooke sat next to me in home room way-back when (mid-70's) in good ol' USS. She was always keen in theatre - it was good to see she's getting to the top of her profession. David Macaskill

| Hey Chris, read your post, I don't have any info about people with

the break if you want. I'm usually not that hard to find!

| What's up USS
I have been sitting here reading the speakers corner and I am very worried about our school. We have all these people who I know arguing about stupid things obviously different strokes for different folks. Obviously smoking pot is bad but who are people to talk down and engage in senseless name calling. You have your point they have theirs. Now in the point of others you should not brag about your pot usage that is just showing your age the more you smoke does not make you cooler. I also would like to say that yes the syracuse trip tarnished the schools rep but it was the business of the people on the trip not anyone else's half the people who are crying did not even go. Well that's about it oh and if you are so worried about SAC run this year and do a better job. LOVE FROM FLORIDA Dan Banks

| Chris (and others who have been traveling the road to justice with
us)
Sorry for not having responded sooner. It's been a busy week. Though I have not been active online I have not forgotten the question of Justice nor the questions you posed regarding my statement that Justice is divine. You asked why does God not exercise his justice on earth? I believe he already has. 2000 years ago a man by the name of Jesus walked the earth. He healed the sick and wounded, raised men from the dead, turned water to wine (the best the master of the house had ever tasted.), fed thousands of people with a few loaves of bread and some fish, and all in all was a very loving person. John 316 tells us in fact, that he loved us soooo much that he died for us. This was God's justice enacted on earth. Jesus was just. You are right though. Human justice is the only practical justice. For that reason the Bible tells us to be imitators of Jesus. It also tells us to act justly towards others. (Jeremiah 75) In the situations you described, Jesus' example was not followed, look at the result. Let me suggest that had Christ been there in place of the leaders who were the result would have been vastly different. Your analogy on courage in Russia can also be applied here. God is just. But we must go beyond that to exercise Justice on earth. We must exercise the example Jesus showed us to have a truly just society. | All right I'm tired of all you muts complaining about nothing. First
of all about the Syracuse trip you shouldn't say anything if you weren't
there. Sure we were wrong for drinking but what was to be expected of a
bunch of teenagers going away for a weekend. Maybe you don't like
to drink but we do. Now on the topic of baggy pants I personally wear bigger
pants as I don't want to have a low sperm count when I am older like all
you tight pant wearing, Nirvana listening geeks will. Now on pot smoking
it is a personal choice and people should not be looked down upon because
they choose to get high, real high. One last thing I have to say to all
you losers who complain about everything is
YOUR MOTHER. P.S What's with all the crime stoppers? Ian Heggie |
| Hey USS
Wow what's with all the slander going on now at uss, we have pot heads
telling us how smoking is "cool". Yeah okay Kane smoking it every day will
NEVER affect you...honest....people like you make me sick. Wow look this
guy on 60-mins said that if you sniff gasoline it will increase you dexterity
while giving your clothing that natural shinny look! Then there is the
"lets trash and bash" SAC. All as i have to say is,
I'd just like to talk about the parking thing outside. Its getting pathetic now. The bus drivers are whining sniveling pukes. They have NOTHING better to do than to complain about a car being parked too far out because they prefer 10 feet of room on each side of their bus instead of 5. Go to <censored>, I never see YOU bus drivers giving me (or any other student) slack when we want to pull out of the parking lot at night. No instead you take up the whole freaking lane and block us in, glaring down from your big yellow bus. You make me sick! What, do you think that because you drive a tub of bolts you're invincible? Well let me tell you, you SUCK! ANd BTW those red signs with STOP written on them apply to you too. Just because your bigger doesn't give you the right of way! Ahem.. Paul Cleary

| Yes I know I'm not here at all and I am completely not a part of this
anonymous not anonymous talk. But really, what is the point of not
putting your name. By not putting your name all you're are doing
is showing that you are a CHICKEN yes, that's correct a CHICKEN I
would use stronger words but they would probably just be censored any way.
To all you CHICKENS out there, whatever your reasons are for remaining
anonymous, I think they're probably quite lame. This is a website
and if someone were to beat you up or hold some long hard serious grudge
for a comment directed towards them, that person has no life and has no
sense of reality. Go ahead all you chickens say something nasty about
me and call me a pansy. I don't care, I big and grown up. Sticks
and stones may break my bones but names will never hurt me.
So all you cowardly CHICKENS who have no intellect to think of something intelligent to say here write what you want about me, I really don't give a damn because it's just your WORTHLESS opinion. But I know that because you are a coward to begin with by not putting your name you wont be able to come up with anything creative or relevant to say. Jarrod Shaw |
| I am forced to agree with Rachel Shortt, our school is disgusting.
All you little pimp daddies, who think they're cool by breaking glass and
frying rats and ripping off locker doors or whatever stupid thing you do
to impress your friends, you're not cool. You're chumps. plain and
simple you are the biggest chumps to poison the earth with your mere presence.
And you're the same chumps who complain about the adults that don't give
you respect. well you don't deserve respect. Your little delinquent
<censored> don't deserve even being put in jail, what you deserve is
to be put over some man's knee and have <censored> smacked red.
the only reason I say this is because when you act like a child, you deserve
to be treated like one. So next time you bitch about being treated
like a child to your parents or teachers, try and remember you are one.
So until you mature and get some education keep acting like a child because
that's the way we'll continue to look at you.

| Re Jeff Wilson's comment on my comment.
I don't mean to say that watching T.V. should be the only source for forming an informed opinion. I have done research on the internet about this and T.V. can be very informative, shows like W5 and 60 minutes both have good coverage of this controversial topic and as for being a dope smoker weather I do or not is none of your business and if I did it is not your place to label me or anyone else. So mind your own business. I don't label you as an Idiot or a Loser for making the comments you have i just wish for my opinion to be respected as an informed one. | Re Adam Kane's Comments on Pot
I really don't care how you feel on weither smoking pot will kill brain cells or if you think it has medicinal values. | This is the guy that wrote to you about syracuse, the S.A.C, Ross the
pot-head snowboarder. Sorry Nicholas Furniss, I did not mean to bash
the S.A.C. If all the work they do is behind the scenes then how can they
be doing a good job? If Mike Harris did all his work behind the scenes,
he would be kicked out of Parliament. I still don't think pot has on effect
on the human brain because I smoke it everyday and my average is 82%. I'm
living proof buddy. So Sorry to bash the precious S.A.C but I don't see
them doing anything positive for this school. Hey Paul Cleary!!! they'd

| Okay this is in response to Austin Taylor's big spew on how pot is
soooooooo bad for you. Although it is illegal and it does have some
short term effects it has not been proven to Kill Brain cells and
it has actually been proven to have medicinal effects. If you'd watch
T.V. more you might even see that they have suppressed Canadian research
that smoking pot can actually be beneficial, because the government doesn't
want it legalized. There is even a case in The USA that I have become
aware of where a man has tried to take the government to court to have
it legalized and they wont let him in because they know he has a good case.
And so what did he do but plant 60,000 yes that's not a typing mistake
60,000 plants and he also told the cops where it was and they refuse to
arrest him because they know that he wants in to court so he can present
his case. So Austin unless you are sure about what you write don't
write it at all!!!

| Dear Austin
I recently read you comments on justice. They were thought provoking, well written, and all together brilliant. I only noticed one mistake, you brought religion into the discussion. You stated that the only being that can be truly just is God and human justice is inherently false because of our own idiosyncrasies. One question: would a child who survived the holocaust agree with you? How about a survivor of Hiroshima? How can justice be administered from above, in these cases. If there was justice these things would not have happened. Sorry to get away from your point there. Why has divine justice not been exercised by God? Surely if there were ever circumstances for it to appear, these would be such times. Let's face the facts. Human justice is the only justice we can relate to be practical, as it is the only justice we have been exposed to. It is pure in the fact that it can be applied to society. In Russia, true courage is not ideological, it is practical. Meaning to think one is brave is not enough, To act brave and adapt it to the current situation is. The analogy may be questionable, but the meaning is not. Thank You, Chris Hyde

| People really should learn to walk down the RIGHT side of the hall!!!!!!!
Did they not learn this in kindergarten with the rest of us?!?!?
What is this need to go against the flow of traffic? Maybe we need
to put bright red arrows on the floor indicating which way the flow of
traffic should be going on that side of the hall. Another thing that
students seem to enjoy is making everyone else late for class by stooping
dead in front of you to have a half hour conversation with about fifty
of their closest friends!! Why must they stand in the very center
of the hall letting only one person by on each side of them? We only
have five minutes as it is to get to class! Maybe they all need to
be taught as to how to walk down the halls. Perhaps a class on this
should be introduced. This would help to clear our halls of the congestion
between classes.

| Recently someone wrote in an article to Speaker's Corner about the
marijuana/snowboarding issue. Although I found this person's opinion debatable
I was even more insulted with the link below it. By only showing a link
to an organization against marijuana, you are only showing one side of
the issue. Links to real information about the effects of pot, good and
bad should be easily available.

| Wow!! The level of intelligence (or lack thereof) in the Speakers
Corner is... well... scary.
To Anonymous It really worries me that you do not believe there are negative effects on the brain from smoking marijuana. For your information there are very serious health implications caused by the inhalation of marijuana smoke. There is a chemical in marijuana smoke that stays in the blood system for weeks and months after even one toke. This happens because the chemical sticks to the veins. This chemical does the same thing on the brain, latching itself to the brain cells and killing them. The effect being short term memory loss. Another effect is dependence on the drug. This is not something pleasant. To the Anonymous Syracuse goer. It really worries me that you are SO selfish. Why should the SAC organize the trips such as Syracuse when people such as yourself discredit the reputation of the school. It seems to me that one should earn the privilege to go on a trip that is school sanctioned. The school risks a lot to take us to various locations across the province and across the continent. Before you go demanding that the SAC go give you more trips and activities perhaps you should apologize to the rest of the school who suffers at the expense of your ignorance. What justification did you have *smuggling* alcohol across the border (breaking international laws), drinking under age in a foreign country (criminal offense, plus any other infractions incurred while intoxicated), causing the entire trip to be canceled and putting students out hundreds of dollars, not to mention the embarrassment the school faces. I'm truly sorry that you had so much fun on your suspension because I fear that you have not learned any lesson. Good day Austin Taylor Click here to see the posts from March 3rd, which contain the post to which this is a response |
| This entry is in response to March 3rd's anonymous letter about pot.
IMHO, all drugs have negative side effects, although some more than others.
Steroids can lead to violent behavior, Smoking can lead to health problems,
drinking can impair your judgment, and even some cold medicines can make
you drowsy. The only difference is that some are more harmful than
others. Pot too can have a negative impact on the general health,
but not as much as some other drugs. One other thing to consider,
however, is that pot is still illegal, and their are laws against the overuse
of alcohol as well. In conclusion, all drugs have their negative
side effects, so it's usually best not to use them. (oh, and the
other thing, most of the school doesn't smoke pot daily)
Another thing that I want to respond to is the anonymous letter putting down the SAC. The sac does a lot for us, but quite a bit of it is behind the scenes. Let's try to cut these guys (and gals) a little bit of slack. Almost all of the SAC's work is done after school, weekends, and on lunch hours, while this time must also include time for the SAC to do their work for their courses. A lot of the SAC is in OA, and OAC classes have quite a bit of homework. Bring back the PixelBoard!!! | March 3rd, 1998 |
| Perhaps I should define what is meant by the statement Justice is divine.
Justice does not equal divinity Justice is decided by divinity. Human capacity, as smart as we think we are, cannot comprehend nor determine precisely the motive, reasoning, or mental state of a person when they act therefore true justice cannot be exercised fully by humans. The only way for true justice to be exercised is to be omniscient (all knowing) and omnipresent (ever present), in other words, justice can only be exercised by God. Good day Austin Taylor |
| I think Ross should have had the gold Medal from the Start. I
have been snowboarding for 5 years and smoking pot everyday for almost
three years. Pot doesn't do anything to your brain or affect how
you act. It is a social thing that almost the whole school does.
So anyone that thinks Ross is a bad guy, stick it. And the story
he told the press about it being second hand, YaRight, I know some guys
in Whistler that have seen him on the slops and at parties. Ross
is a Joint smoking, beer drinking, party going, speed demon snowboarder.

| I think the student council does zero for the students of this school.
We don't need a pixel board or whatever it is. We need better clubs

I don't know why we all got suspended, I had just as much fun on my suspension
as I did at the hotel and Green Onion in Syracuse.
